I live in the Philadelphia area and I noticed back last summer that the
McDonalds here are all selling a Philly cheese steak sandwhich. You can
even order it as a value meal. I tried one and it was half decent. It
had onions, but not a lot, which is good because I am not an onion fan
and McDonalds does not offer a version without onions.

The reason I am posting is I wonder if this sandwhich is available
eleswhere besides the Philadelphia area. I noticed the McDonalds up in
the Boston area are selling the Philly cheese steak sandwhich too, as is
the McDonalds on the boardwalk in Wildwood, and I think the outlets in
the Delaware beach areas. What about anywhere else?

I HAD to try one just out of curiosity.... It's not a REAL
cheesesteak .. Neither meat nor roll are authentic. That being said,
is it better than a Quarter Pounder , Big Mac etc. ?? Probably ... If
you HAVE no choice but McD's , it's a pretty good greasy alternative
to whatever else they are serving. However, if you are near ANY
alternative cheesesteak vendor, you'd be advised to take your chances

Funny story:

When the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich appeared on the menu of my local
McDonalds I went for it and although it definitely was bizarre tasting and
typically artificial looking I enjoyed it on some level. However, soon
after I did a lot of vomiting and later spent most of the night trying to
contain a wild case of diarrhea. Now, I'm not complaining but that would
be a little too much for me as a regular thing.

Unfortunately also available in Northern PA. I agree with my friends that it
is nothing like the real thing.

I think McDonald's has tried several "local" items on their menus.
Years ago tried a lobster roll up in New England and sausage gravy and
biscuits in Alabama. Both were horrible versions of the food they
attempted to duplicate.

I remember seeing the lobster roll in Boston. My wife would
never let me try one. Probably a good thing, as I can't imagine what
McD's would do to convince you there was actaully LOBSTER meat in
there <g>.

The McD cheesesteak is best, IMO, when you dont even think of
it as a cheesesteak. If you find yourself in a situation where the
golden arches is the only source of nutrition, it tastes MUCH better
if you compare it to that dried-out quarter-pounder you COULD have
been gnawing on.

Think of it as a greasy "meat-and-onions-and-cheese on a
spongy roll" and don't think about a Jim's or D'Allesandros, or
Chink's and you'll be able to get it down.

Then again, sounds like it was a cause of some pretty serious
gastric distress to one poster here. I didn't keep track of any ill
effects, but I don't recall vomiting ...

Yeah, but it will come up anywhere from 10-120 minutes later... it's
designed to come back up.
