Salutations, gentlefolk,

About forty years ago, when I was an unpolished adolescent, my mother
worked in an office down the hall from Jelinek-Ronon Food Brokers, and
so I met Mr. Frank Jelinek, and got to know him and dine with him and
his lovely wife a couple of times. He went on to some fame in
metropolitan Philadelphia as a food writer, restaurant reviewer, and
radio commentator. My parents retired, moved away, and I, do my
misfortune, dropped out of touch with him.

He was 'a gentleman of the old school', readier to praise than to
blame, happy to share his enthusiasm and his knowledge even with one
as arrogantly unfledged as I was then, a charming person and a
gracious host who made you happy to be with him.

Mr. Jelinek passed away on February 23. Too few like him, there now
are in our world.

Yours, John Desmond

I read Frank Jelinek's obit in the Inquirer. I was saddened to hear of
his passing. I enjoyed listening to Frank and Mary on the radio.

It takes one to know one. I would bet that the grace you describe was a
mutually profound bond; as anyone would be blessed and honored to be written
about in such a gracious way; or to have known a friend to write so
graciously about.

A great touching statement, too rarely expressed in this NG, nor anyone
else.

I googled Jelinek-Ronon Food Brokers and came up with nothing, but
I'll assume you are not trolling rfc in any way, shape or form.

My condolences to you... I know from personal experience how emotional
it is to lose someone who is important to you, but is not a blood
relationship. The sense of loss can often be greater than that of a
blood relative.

That company has been defunct for many years and it was local to
Philadelphia.

Here's an article about Frank Jelinek.
