There used to be in any food court of any shopping mall in
Philadelphia a place selling Greek fast food - items such as Gyro,
Souvlaki, Biftaki, Shish-Kabob etc. Ordering a Gyro, you
would see a man scraping pieces of meat off from a big chuck
from a vertical rotating skewer. One by one, these places are
closing down. There used to be one in the gallery called
Acropolis(?) and one in the Bourse in center city. They are
now all gone.

Yes, you can still order a Gyro from a Diner. But they are not
from the verticle skewer.
