whenever I get out there thats the place. Over the last six months this
place keeps improving. Salmon, and sesame chicken at night, broccoli and
chicken, mushrooms, peppersteak, today had great assortment. This place
isn't just good , its very good for a buffett. I tried allot of buffets and
this is the best. My only gripe its not always hot. In the middle of mall
near the big department store.
You see now this is hard to leave ... to go to another town.
at great prices, cheap for lunch or dinner buffet or take out

I wouldnt eat or shop at that mall.
It has turned into a ghetto in the last ten years.

I remember the days when they had a sit down diner in the middle of it.

Real nice. I also remember the days of the galaxy arcade back in the
early 80's.
Was nice then. Now its a shit hole.

Real nice. I also remember the days of the galaxy arcade back in the
early 80's. Was nice then. Now its a shit hole.
I remember that diner, I believe it was called Jerry's Essen House, or
something along those lines. My folks and I ate many a meal there.

The Roosevelt Mall is different now, but to say its run down is simply
wrong. The mall is well maintained and it was fixed up nicely within the
past three years or so. The Roosevelt Mall offers a good variety of
stores, but it does need a bookstore to replace the vacancy that Marlo
Books created when the owner closed up shop.

Is your objection is the greater range of people who shop there now?
When I was a kid, I practically lived at the Roosevelt Mall Three of my
best friends in the late 70's when I was in high school lived directly
behind that mall, so we were there all the time. I lived half a mile a
way and my folks still live there.

When I was a kid, most of the customers at the Roosevelt Mall were
caucasian, but now the mall has a mix of visitors of different ethnic
backgrounds, which mirrors the changing composition of the surrounding
area.

Speaking of Chinese restaurants, I tried that buffet place a few times
and it always struck me as run of the mill institutional Chinese buffet
food that you can find at any Chinese buffet; nothing distinctive about
it. The last time I was there was probably over a year ago, so the place
may have improved since. I used to get food from a little takeout
Chinese food store across from where the Rite Aide is (behind where the
music store is now). I also miss the Allied Hobby store, which I
recently discovered has closed. And I loved to spend hours looking at
the "hi fi" stereo equipment in Sam Goodies.

When I was very young, maybe 10 years old, my dad and I would walk over
to the mall once in a while and they had this area where the Modell's is
located where you could rent these little race cars and race them on a
track in the store. They also sold race cars. I loved that place when I
was a kid! The name of it escapes me though.

I am not a big fan of malls in now because I hate shopping and I hate
the crowds, but on a nice day if I am visiting my folks and I have some
time to kill, I stop by the Roosevelt Mall and check out the Modell's
sporting goods store, Radio Shack (always good for a laugh), and maybe
get a slice of pizza from Gino's.

The owners of the Galaxy game arcade probably retired on the money I
spent there! I was lucky when I was a kid because I had a very good
paying part time job. I would frequently spend a few hours at the Galaxy
or that arcade that was on the corner across the street from the
Northeast Regional Library where that diner is now located. I dumped a
lot of money into the machines there and hanging out with friends. The
Jim's steaks that occupies the space where the Galaxy was is a good
addition to the mall, but now that I am in my 40's, I rarely eat that
kind of food.

Your memory is better then mine. I remember when the Cavalier opened there
way way back and I think part of it was an arcade and part like a cafeteria
following in the Horn and Hardetts style. . Other then that, I think it was
a decent mall
As for the food, I was in a good mood when I recommended them. The
Chinese Buffet at the Mall actually has a few good things going for it
although atmosphere and mood is not one of them .Their food has improved
and I recommend going back at night and paying a dollar or so more for the
buffet or take out. At night they add Chicken dish that is quite good and
from the breast part while most chinese buffets use the rib parts. They have
extremely good mushrooms in sauce, with sliced carrots, recently added
bamboo shoots and shrimp, usually has giant shrimp going for$ 8.99 a pound
everywhere else, has barbecue spare ribs, beef and vegetables, even roast
duck and salmon believe it or not . The one area I have for complaint about
Chinese Restaurants is the over use of eggs in their sauce which in my eyes
make me want to be sick . At times I have tried to explain I liked their
food but wanted it less heavy and tried to explain why and how but
ultimately many like that went out of business. Chinese places that uses
WOKs are becoming a bit popular and their cooking usually but not always is
a little lighter. I think this Chinese buffet uses a good sauce but my
biggest complaint is food is not hot and would like to see more chinese
vegetables. Seriously for the price its a definite good choice to at least
to take out.. About diversity and such until I see and hear of bad things
like violence, diversity could be good and don't bother me.

Litter is a problem throughout Philadelphia for some reason. I have
noticed that problem in every neighborhood I have visited or lived in,
including the better areas such as Society Hill. The Roosevelt Mall is
no worse than any other Philadelphia area mall I have been to.

Unfortunately, it seems like a lot of Philadelphians are slobs and were
raised as if they lived in a barn. This also seems to go across racial
differences and income. I have seen white people, for instance, in fancy
cars toss trash out the window. A few years ago, I was in my car waiting
for a traffic light to turn green on Columbus Blvd near Washington Ave.
I saw a white woman behind the wheel of a Lexus dumping trash out of the
window, including some odd stuff such as a pair of old high heeled shoes.

Your flipping out on the race issue. I am somewhat scared to be honest but
thats because unlike what Karen has said, I see more angst and police sirens
and helicopters overhead and I know of stolen cars and home broken into and
a few murders around here. Is it very violent ? Absolutely not. I think
white people get scared and move out real fast without really comprehending
the real danger and this is where I agree with Karen in some ways. Most of
the shootings are because of drugs and blacks who hang out doing them. The
part that becomes scary is when people are in the neighborhood and we don't
know why. I had two guys scouring our neighbors home who recently moved and
they were hanging there for a few hours early in morning. I can't imagine
there was anything good to come out of them being there yet the cops didn't
come when I called. I couldn't say they were doing anything wrong but at the
same time, common sense dictates or defaults to wanting to be safe and
things predictable. I am more concerned with pollution issue at this point.
So right now Philly has to learn to deal with diversity , because most
blacks are just as good as other people. As long as people try to instill
good values I think it can continue. If not, I will try to move. I believe
the rise in murder must be stopped so the murder equation does not expand.

just in case your thinking of going there take a look at the offerings
before you commit yourself in ordering. I have realized often they don't
have the items I like. When I was there last they had everything but this
time they had very few items. When they have it all together its good, when
they don't its not out of the ordinary but still decent.

I seriously doubt I will go there, only because buffets are incredibly
fattening and unhealthy. The temptation to overeat at those sorts of
places is strong. I just lost a lot of weight and I intend to keep it
off, so avoiding buffets is a top priority for me.

I know I am overweight, but I thought you were going to say you know how
awful it is. This one is exceptional when they have the seafood too and
baboo shoots , and its hot. I know at least five people who go there now
allot and take out instead of keep going back, they deserve peoples business.
The bad part is sometimes they run out of the good food. Their food is
rather light compared to other places.
