Post by d***@yahoo.comI wouldnt eat or shop at that mall.
It has turned into a ghetto in the last ten years.
I remember the days when they had a sit down diner in the middle of it.
Real nice. I also remember the days of the galaxy arcade back in the
early 80's. Was nice then. Now its a shit hole.
I remember that diner, I believe it was called Jerry's Essen House, or
something along those lines. My folks and I ate many a meal there.
The Roosevelt Mall is different now, but to say its run down is simply
wrong. The mall is well maintained and it was fixed up nicely within the
past three years or so. The Roosevelt Mall offers a good variety of
stores, but it does need a bookstore to replace the vacancy that Marlo
Books created when the owner closed up shop.
Is your objection is the greater range of people who shop there now?
When I was a kid, I practically lived at the Roosevelt Mall Three of my
best friends in the late 70's when I was in high school lived directly
behind that mall, so we were there all the time. I lived half a mile a
way and my folks still live there.
When I was a kid, most of the customers at the Roosevelt Mall were
caucasian, but now the mall has a mix of visitors of different ethnic
backgrounds, which mirrors the changing composition of the surrounding
area.
Speaking of Chinese restaurants, I tried that buffet place a few times
and it always struck me as run of the mill institutional Chinese buffet
food that you can find at any Chinese buffet; nothing distinctive about
it. The last time I was there was probably over a year ago, so the place
may have improved since. I used to get food from a little takeout
Chinese food store across from where the Rite Aide is (behind where the
music store is now). I also miss the Allied Hobby store, which I
recently discovered has closed. And I loved to spend hours looking at
the "hi fi" stereo equipment in Sam Goodies.
When I was very young, maybe 10 years old, my dad and I would walk over
to the mall once in a while and they had this area where the Modell's is
located where you could rent these little race cars and race them on a
track in the store. They also sold race cars. I loved that place when I
was a kid! The name of it escapes me though.
I am not a big fan of malls in now because I hate shopping and I hate
the crowds, but on a nice day if I am visiting my folks and I have some
time to kill, I stop by the Roosevelt Mall and check out the Modell's
sporting goods store, Radio Shack (always good for a laugh), and maybe
get a slice of pizza from Gino's.
The owners of the Galaxy game arcade probably retired on the money I
spent there! I was lucky when I was a kid because I had a very good
paying part time job. I would frequently spend a few hours at the Galaxy
or that arcade that was on the corner across the street from the
Northeast Regional Library where that diner is now located. I dumped a
lot of money into the machines there and hanging out with friends. The
Jim's steaks that occupies the space where the Galaxy was is a good
addition to the mall, but now that I am in my 40's, I rarely eat that
kind of food.
