This evening a relatively new (10 years old) burned down in Bucks
County. It should be on the evening news and in the paper tomorrow.
It was an independent market, McCaffrey's, that was popular in
the community.

IIRC, the place had sprinklers. Initial reports said the fire
started in shrubs in front of the building, although isn't confirmed
or verified.

I don't think there were any injuries, thank goodness, as the
fire occured at a busy shopping time.

It makes me wonder how a fire could get so devastating to a modern
building. Obviously the details aren't known yet.

The firehouse is directly across the street. But the area is
served by volunteers, who need time to be called and get to the
scene.

Where exactly was this supermarket? I thought the only McCaffrey's
in Bucks County was on Second Street Pike, but that went out of business
about a year ago. I assume this was a different McCaffrey's than?

Although I'm reading this topic in phl.transportation, I'm posting my
response only to phl.food.

McCaffrey's is a mini-chain. Since Lisa has alluded to living in the
Yardley area, I'm guessing that this is their "flagship" store that is
on one of the main roads outside the Yardley borough in one of the
surrounding Makefield townships. I've driven past it maybe once, but I
don't quite recall what road it's on.

They have branched out over the past few years. As of a few months ago,
their web site listed two other locations. I think one was in Princeton,
but I don't recall where the other one was. The one in Southampton was
part of this chain but lasted less than a year. They probably expanded
too fast. Another grocery store is now in the Southampton location. The
Southampton storefront was previous occupied by an Acme, which was
replaced by a larger store in nearby Warminster. In fact, based on
architectural patterns, it appears that the fabric store in the shopping
center across 2nd Street Pike may have also been an Acme, which probably
relocated to the larger and newer store across the street.

What does this have to do with phl.transportation?
